Selina Labs LLC, d/b/a Selina AI (“Selina AI,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), provides an artificial intelligence-powered companion designed to remember you, know you over time, and proactively engage with you, together with the related website, application, and services (collectively, the “Service”), as described in our Terms and Conditions of Use (the “Terms”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through the Service, how we use and share it, the choices and rights available to you, and how to contact us with questions. Capitalized terms not defined in this Privacy Policy have the meaning given to them in the Terms.
This Privacy Policy applies solely to the Selina AI Service. It does not apply to other Selina Labs products or services, which are governed by separate privacy notices, if any.
By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you should not access or use the Service.
We collect the following categories of information in connection with your use of the Service:
Information you provide when you create an account or authenticate to the Service, such as your name, email address, unique user ID, and login credentials, including information managed through third-party authentication providers. If you enable multi-factor authentication, we store the associated authenticator configuration in encrypted form.
Your conversational inputs, prompts, queries, responses, preferences, and behavioral patterns generated through your use of the Service (“Interaction Data”), including the content you submit to the Service (“User Content”) and the AI-generated responses, suggestions, summaries, and other outputs you receive (“AI Output”).
The persistent, organized record the Service builds from your Interaction Data, including topics, interests, relationships, and other information you have engaged with through the Service, which is refreshed through a periodic consolidation process that reconciles new information and retires outdated details. Structured Memory is provenance-tracked, meaning the Service records whether information was explicitly provided by you or inferred by the Service. Your Structured Memory is encrypted at rest using a key unique to your account, as described in Section 10.
Files you upload to the Service, and files the Service generates for you, are stored in your personal encrypted vault. Each file is encrypted at rest using a key unique to your account. Where your account is over its applicable storage limit, we may retain a derived summary and searchable index of a file’s contents in your Structured Memory without retaining the original file, as further described in Section 9.
When you purchase a paid subscription, your payment is processed by a third-party payment processor (such as Stripe). We do not store your full payment card number; we retain limited billing information (such as transaction history and the last four digits of your payment method) as needed to administer your subscription.
Standard technical information collected automatically for service operation and security, such as IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, and session and log data. See Section 11 regarding how we handle IP addresses for analytics.
Preferences, interests, and communication-style inferences the Service generates about you through Adaptive Memory processing, as described in Section 2 below. As noted in Section 1.3, inferred information is recorded as inferred and distinguished from information you explicitly provide.
We use the information described above to:
We do not use Interaction Data for advertising unrelated to the Service or sell it to data brokers.
A defining feature of the Service is that it becomes more useful the more you engage with it. This section explains, in plain terms, how that works:
Structured Memory. We organize what you tell the Service and what it observes into a structured, persistent memory tied to your account. A periodic consolidation process reconciles new information against what is already stored and retires outdated details. Because memory is provenance-tracked, the Service records whether a given item was provided by you or inferred by the Service.
Adaptive Memory. The Service progressively refines its understanding of your preferences, interests, and how you communicate as you use it. Each interaction may contribute to a more personalized experience.
Proactive Outreach. Unlike reactive AI tools, the Service may initiate a message to you within the Service without waiting for a prompt (for example, to raise a reminder, check in on something you previously mentioned, or follow up on a matter you indicated was important). Proactive Outreach is delivered inside the Service (in-app) and draws on your Structured Memory to determine when and how to reach you. See Section 4 for how to control this feature.
Proactive Outreach is delivered as a message or notification within the Service (in-app). We do not deliver Proactive Outreach by SMS or text message, and we do not use email for Proactive Outreach.
Separate from Proactive Outreach, we may send you service and transactional communications by email, such as security alerts, billing and subscription notices, and notice that your account or data is scheduled for deletion. These messages relate to your account and the operation of the Service and are not promotional; you cannot opt out of essential service messages while maintaining an account, though you may opt out of any optional promotional email as described in Section 2.
We provide you with controls to view, modify, and delete information stored in your Structured Memory, to the extent technically feasible, through your account settings or by contacting us at privacy@selina.ai. Please note that deleting stored memory data may materially affect the Service’s personalization capabilities for your account.
You may request deletion of your account at any time through your account settings or by contacting us at privacy@selina.ai. When you request account deletion, we deactivate your account promptly and schedule your data for permanent deletion following a thirty (30) day grace period, during which you may restore your account. After the grace period, we permanently delete or de-identify your Account Information, Interaction Data, Structured Memory, and files, except that we may retain limited information where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, or as otherwise permitted by law.
Because your Structured Memory and files are encrypted with a key unique to your account, deletion includes destruction of the account’s encryption key material, rendering the associated encrypted data unrecoverable.
We will process a verified deletion request within the timeframe described above, subject to a limited additional period for removal from backups and archival systems.
You are strongly advised not to share Sensitive Personal Information through the Service. “Sensitive Personal Information” includes, without limitation: Social Security numbers or other government-issued identification numbers; financial account numbers, credit card numbers, or banking credentials; medical or health information; biometric data; passwords or authentication credentials; or information about minors.
If you voluntarily submit Sensitive Personal Information to the Service, it will be treated as Interaction Data and handled in accordance with this Privacy Policy, but we do not intentionally solicit or seek to collect Sensitive Personal Information through your conversations with the Service. As set forth in the Terms, Selina AI disclaims liability for any harm resulting from your voluntary submission of Sensitive Personal Information.
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information for money. We may disclose information as follows:
Service Providers. With vendors that perform services on our behalf, such as third-party AI providers, cloud hosting, authentication, payment processing, transactional email, and customer support, under contractual confidentiality and data protection obligations.
Third-Party AI Providers. The Service routes requests to third-party AI providers (such as large language model providers) to generate AI Output. This includes the content of your conversations and relevant context drawn from your Structured Memory that the Service determines is needed to respond. See Section 8 below for details on how these providers handle your information.
Legal and Safety Reasons. Where required by applicable law, regulation, or valid legal process, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of Selina AI, our users, or the public.
Aggregated or De-Identified Data. We may share data that has been aggregated or de-identified such that it no longer identifies you, for analytics, research, and business purposes.
(a) Our default policy. By default, Selina AI does not use your User Content, prompts, conversations, AI Output, or Interaction Data to train, fine-tune, or otherwise develop foundation models or general-purpose large language models.
(b) Service operation and improvement. We do use Interaction Data to operate, maintain, secure, debug, and improve the Service itself, including to build and refine your Structured Memory, evaluate model performance and routing, detect abuse, fraud, and policy violations, and develop and improve the Service’s features and infrastructure. These uses are distinct from training foundation models.
(c) Third-party provider training. The Service routes requests to third-party AI providers, currently Anthropic, OpenAI, and xAI. We configure our use of these providers so that they do not train their models on data we send through their APIs, and these providers retain API data only for a limited period for abuse monitoring and safety before deleting it. Those providers’ own data-use practices are governed by their respective terms and privacy policies, which are independent of Selina AI and which we encourage you to review, including, but not limited to:
(d) De-identified and aggregated data. We may create and use de-identified or aggregated data derived from Interaction Data for analytics, research, and business purposes. We maintain such data in de-identified form and will not attempt to re-identify it.
We retain Account Information and Structured Memory for as long as your account remains active, or as needed to provide the Service to you. Specifically:
Upon a verified request to delete your account or memory, we will delete or de-identify the applicable data from active systems within the timeframe described in Section 5, subject to a limited period for removal from backups and archival systems, and subject to any information we are required to retain by law.
We use technical, administrative, and physical safeguards designed to protect the information we collect. These include encryption of data in transit; encryption at rest of your Structured Memory and files using a key derived uniquely for your account, such that your encrypted content is not readable across accounts; and access controls limiting who may access your information. When you delete your account, the associated key material is destroyed, rendering the encrypted data unrecoverable. No method of storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you in accordance with applicable law.
If you use the Service’s secure file-sharing feature, the file is encrypted in your browser before it is transmitted to us, using a passphrase you set. We do not receive your passphrase, and we cannot read the contents, filename, or type of a file shared this way; only a recipient with the passphrase can decrypt it. Shared links may be subject to expiration and download limits that you or we set, and you may revoke a share, which deletes the transferred copy.
We use a small number of strictly necessary first-party cookies to authenticate you and maintain the security of your session. These are essential to signing in and using the Service; they are not used for tracking, advertising, analytics, or profiling. We do not set third-party advertising cookies and do not load third-party advertising or analytics scripts.
First-party analytics (cookieless). We record aggregate usage analytics without cookies. When a page view is recorded, your IP address and browser user-agent are combined with a daily-rotating secret value and converted into a one-way identifier; we do not store your raw IP address. Because the value rotates daily, the same visitor produces a different identifier each day, so visitors are not tracked across days or across sites. Alongside this identifier we store only limited, non-identifying information such as page path, referrer, campaign parameters if present in the URL, coarse device type, and a two-letter country code provided by our content-delivery network.
If you sign in using a third-party authentication provider (such as Google), that provider may set its own cookies on its own domains as part of its sign-in process; those cookies are governed by that provider’s privacy policy. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling strictly necessary cookies may prevent you from signing in or using the Service.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information under applicable state privacy laws, including the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act (TDPSA), the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA), the Connecticut Data Privacy Act (CTDPA), the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA), the Utah Consumer Privacy Act (UCPA), and comparable laws in Montana, Iowa, Oregon, Delaware, New Hampshire, Nebraska, New Jersey, and other states. Subject to certain exceptions and limitations, these rights may include the right to:
“Sale” and “Sharing.” Under the CCPA/CPRA, “sale” and “sharing” are defined broadly to include disclosing personal information to a third party for money or other valuable consideration, or for cross-context behavioral advertising, even without a monetary exchange. Applying that definition, Selina AI does not sell personal information and does not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Automated decision-making. The Service does not use your personal information to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects concerning you, such as decisions regarding employment, credit, housing, insurance, healthcare, or government benefits. Use of the Service for such consequential decisions is expressly prohibited under Section 6.2 of the Terms.
Colorado AI Act. Because the Service is not designed, offered, or intended for use in consequential decision-making, as described in Sections 5.4 and 6.2 of the Terms, Selina AI does not consider the Service to be a “high-risk artificial intelligence system” as defined under the Colorado AI Act. Use of the Service in connection with a consequential decision is a violation of our Terms.
How to exercise your rights. You may submit a request to exercise your privacy rights by emailing us at privacy@selina.ai. We will take reasonable steps to verify your identity before responding. We will respond to verifiable requests within the time required by applicable law (generally 45 days, which may be extended once by an additional 45 days as permitted by law). You may designate an authorized agent to submit a request on your behalf, subject to verification. There is no charge for submitting or having us respond to a verifiable request, unless it is excessive, repetitive, or manifestly unfounded. If we deny your request, you may appeal by replying to our denial with the subject line “Privacy Rights Appeal,” and we will respond to your appeal within the time required by applicable law.
Nevada residents may also submit a request to opt out of the sale of covered information by emailing privacy@selina.ai; as noted above, we do not currently sell personal information.
The Service is intended solely for individuals who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will promptly terminate the associated account and delete the associated data. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@selina.ai.
We provide the Service for use only by persons located in the United States. We make no claims that the Service or any of its content is accessible or appropriate outside of the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with all applicable local laws. This Privacy Policy does not include GDPR- or UK GDPR-specific disclosures, consistent with the Service’s current U.S.-only availability.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you via email or a prominent in-app notice, consistent with Section 16.7 of the Terms. The “Last Updated” date at the top of this Privacy Policy reflects the date of the most recent revision. Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of an updated Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of the changes.
